AZAER Board Meeting

||Meeting called to order

 

Present:           Dorinda Rife, Jacki Daniels, Kartar Kaur Khalsa , Kerry Duncan, Christine Powers, Venetia Hayden , Karen Aron , Elane Baldridge, Amy Murillo, & Rob Schulenburg

Excused:         Fernando Tarazon

President's Report

            -           None (see fall conference info below)

Vice President's Report

            -           None

Secretary's Report

-           2 $500 scholarships were awarded (as used to be done in the past) to Paul Ruffner and Sidney Freedman

-           Christine will send Karen the recipients’ info so she can mail checks

-           Christine will post the minutes from the previous meeting to the board listserv for members to approve

Treasurer's Report

            -           spring conference netted $1100

            -           the budget is going to take a big hit from the fall conference this year,  since there won’t be any money coming in from the vendors, due to AZAER conference being held in conjunction with VRATE

            -           spring conference evaluations: Kerry reported that the responses were generally positive; attendees enjoyed the variety of speakers:

New Business:.

            The remainder of the meeting was dedicated to the planning of the fall conference

-                      Jacki will handle nominations for vacancies on the board: secretary, treasurer and 3 board members

-                      Amy will solicit speakers for rehab topics

-                      Jacki handed out possible layout for sessions (9-12 slots)

o        keynote: yet to be determined, but there are several possibilities

o        Dr. Borchert will be speaking on Optic Nerve Hypoplacia

o        The governor may be speaking at 9:30 on Friday as a guest of VRATE

o        Joy Zabala will speak on the SETT Framework & assistive tech planning

o        Troy LaPlante (video filing) will need several blocks of time

o        No speaker during lunch

-                      Meal planning / menu selections

-                      Registration fees: $70 2 days/$40 1 day members; $110 2days/$60 nonmembers, possible $50 student fee, $25 for extra lunch, $20 extra breakfast

-                      Registration deadline of November 1

-                      Dorinda will write an introduction to speakers for next newsletter

-                      Amy will be in charge of legislative updates

-                      Fund raising: Kerry; pens, T-shirts, and insolated lunch bags

-                      Venitia will handle the ACVREP application process

-                      Lynn Noon is providing bags again

-                      Jacki and Elane will stuff bags

-                      Name tags for board members: Dorinda and Venitia

-                      Transportation between Ramada and Civic Plaza : Rob – O&M instructors &/or PediCabs

-                      Karen will print name tags/ Christine & Kerry will assemble them

-                      Accessible programs: Christine

-                      Letters from scholarship recipients to be read at banquet: Christine
